A misunderestimation, and good news for the fish

Well, as you all know, Bush is only going to be president for a few more days; and though not everything he has done was memorable, he has certainly left us with a substantial volume of memorable quotes. Don't get me wrong: I'm not picking on the man--I have nothing personal against him: bad grammar and misspeaks (whatever the heck they are) can happen to us all, and after all, he is a politician and a product of the American Education System....

I'll resist comment: it would ruin it. Some of my favorites:

"I'll be long gone before some smart person ever figures out what happened inside this Oval Office,"
-- to Israeli journalists in Washington in an interview published May 12, 2008

"There's an old saying in Tennessee -- I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee -- that says, fool me once, shame on ... shame on you. Fool me -- you can't get fooled again,"
-- Nashville, Tennessee, September 17, 2002

"I want to thank my friend, Senator Bill Frist, for joining us today ... He married a Texas girl, I want you to know. Karyn is with us. A West Texas girl, just like me,"
-- Nashville, Tennessee, May 27, 2004

"I just want you to know that, when we talk about war, we're really talking about peace,"
-- Washington, June 18, 2002

"Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we," -- Washington, August 5, 2004

"I remember meeting a mother of a child who was abducted by the North Koreans right here in the Oval Office,"
-- Washington, June 26, 2008

[Ok, ok, I know I said I wasn't going to comment, but, heck! I had no idea the national security crisis was that bad!]

"I know the human being and fish can coexist peacefully,"
-- Saginaw, Michigan, September 29, 2000

"Too many good docs are getting out of the business. Too many OB/GYNs aren't able to practice their love with women all across the country,"
-- Poplar Bluff, Missouri, September 6, 2004

[Uh, me here again: all I have to say is, "WHAT?!"]

"Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning?"
-- Florence, South Carolina, January 11, 2000

"You teach a child to read, and he or her will be able to pass a literacy test,"
-- Townsend, Tennessee, February 21, 2001

"Those who enter the country illegally violate the law,"
-- Tucson, Arizona, November 28, 2005

"They misunderestimated me,"
-- Bentonville, Arkansas, November 6, 2000

They misunderestimated me, too.

Chelsey, those actually are pretty interesting quotes! I knew that President Bush didn't have the best grammar, but to blame him for that is just not right. Just put it on our new President, He has already made minor mistakes like that. By the way, what exactly does misunderestimate mean?

I didn't blame him. I blamed the American Education System.

Misunderestimate, I take to mean, is a combination of "misunderstand" and "underestimate"--I'm not precisely sure which he meant, I'd have to know the context. It's a bit of a serendipitous, accidental portmanteau, if you will...

Yeah, and as we know, Bush helped the School to graduate failures, but that is why we are homeschooled!
